INSPIRATION FOR IMPACT

The IMPACT program was inspired by our students. Read below to see how our students' desire for authentic learning experiences helped inform the development of the IMPACT program.

SAYURI SEKIMITSU

Focus:
"My love for baking naturally intertwined with my developing passion for science (physics, biology, chemistry) and the two complimented each other perfectly."

Action:
Sayuri designed science activities and shared what she had learned via blog with the world.

IMPACT Profile:
She built upon a life-long passion for cooking and synthesized it with her academic studies. She conducted research and shared her results with the world.

TUHINA MISHRA

Focus:
“I care about children in India and wanted to change their lives through education and inspiration.”

Action:
A true social entrepreneur, Tuhina started a samosa business in Tokyo to fund children’s education in India. She traveled there this year to meet the girls she supports.

IMPACT Profile:
She identified a problem and plan of action. She then demonstrated persistence, researching and developing a product to fund a related project. Her empathy and action can serve as a role model for others.

MARY KATE MCGEE

Focus:
“I want to be an Elementary school teacher”

Action:
Mary Kate has worked as an intern in the ES (2 years), summer day camp counselor (2 years), and independently pursuing skills and experience in early years learning environments.

IMPACT Profile:
She demonstrated collaborative and community action by responding to students needs. She researched and developed new materials and experiences by understanding diverse perspectives and developing empathy for others. Through this process she showed evidence of commitment to long-term goals.
